Types & Tactics Mechanical Identity in Magic: The Gathering’s Tribes
What is a MTG Creature?
Creature cards are central to gameplay, allowing you to attack, defend, or use special abilities. Each belongs to one or more tribes like Goblins, Angels, or Elves — and each tribe follows a distinct archetype reflected in their mechanics. A creature's colour also shapes its identity, with each colour embodying different themes and playstyles.
About this Visualization
Each arc represents a creature tribe; the lines connecting them to the outer ring show which mechanics define that tribe, weighted by how often they appear across its cards. The center reflects the tribe's most common colour identity.
